The prolonged rise of living costs has dramatically accelerated the number of people who are unhoused; parents who are unable to pay bills; and children facing food insecurity.
Throughout our history we’ve turned to the power of community for help: generous neighbors, dedicated social workers and our vast network of social service agencies that stand ready to act.
Our unique case model treats every neighbor with the respect, dignity and kindness they deserve, and leverages our agency partners to multiply our impact. Together, we map a customized path towards financial stability – taking steps to break the cycle of poverty one family, one child and one resident at a time.
Since our founding in 1912, we’ve quietly supported our neighbors in need, offering personal care products, help applying for food and housing assistance and much more.
But today, Community Service of Newburyport is evolving to respond to an incredible surge of client need: we are building the Family Resiliency and Empowerment Center, a safe and welcoming space where our neighbors can find support, knowledge and resources.
Our 2025 Strategic Plan is the blueprint for our efforts to make a major impact on our neighbors who are living with or struggle with the threat of homelessness; who struggle to heat their homes, feed their families and themselves; struggle to access health care; live in isolation without dignity; and struggle to support the dreams of their children.
We work to ensure every individual and family has access to safe, affordable housing.
We offer a financial “bridge” to neighbors to prevent deeper descent into poverty and family instability; and we work to create safe, healthy and meaningful lives for senior citizens.
We help young people thrive by discovering their personal value and learning to contribute to community. We nurture and empower the children of Newbury, Newburyport, and West Newbury by providing the resources and support to develop their potential.
In the 100-plus years CSN has operated, we have fostered relationships with agencies in our service area and throughout the region who share our values and are working to serve their neighbors in need. We leverage their capabilities and resources – such as Our Neighbors’ Table, a food pantry in Salisbury, who helps people with food insecurity. Here is a partial list of the local agencies with whom we collaborate:
In addition to our part-time staff of four, CSN benefits greatly from the guidance and support of our Board of Directors and Advisors. This committed group of leaders plays a vital role in shaping our direction and strengthening our impact.
