Please support Summer Camps for Children and Youth

Community Service of Newburyport (CSN) has been supporting Summer Camps for children from low-income families for many years. Over the last few years, we have been expanding the reach of our summer camp program.

As we have emerged from the pandemic, more than 70 children and youth have benefited from this program. Our goal is to provide access enriching experiences for young people who families cannot afford them. We seek to match them to an experience in an area that they find stimulating in the hope that it will open new possibilities to them.

In the last two years, for example, we sent young people to camp at Coastal Discoveries; North Shore Nature programs; the Cedardale camp; Salisbury Boy’s and Girl’s Club; the Spartan Basketball camp; Ipswich Junior Sailing Camp; Tastebuds Cooking; Merrohawke Nature School; NYS soccer camp; and the YWCA. In addition, over the last two summers we have paid for driving lessons for six young people so they travel to work and provided football fees with a parent so their son could play last year.

Parents are eternally grateful.

“I know this is late, but we wanted to thank Community Service for the Camp scholarship this past summer for my son, Luke. He attended two weeks at Northshore Nature Programs had a blast. He has speech and emotional delays and struggles with making friends and trying new things (click here for more testmonials).

This program was fantastic, and there was no way that we could have done this on our own. Thank you so much!”

The CSN Board of Directors is very supportive of this enriching program and is engaged in planning and executing fund-raising activities to support and expand its reach. The average cost of these programs is $375 per week and we generally fund two weeks per child.

We are hoping this year to expand it to serve up to 40 young people.
